Vipers kickoff title defense against Mutono’s Gaddafi

Vipers SC will kickoff their title defense away to Gaddafi FC on Sunday, 17th August at Gaddafi Arena in Jinja.

The Venoms will be targeting a bright start to the new campaign under the stewardship of Brazilian tactician Leonard Martins Neiva.

The Brazilian is under pressure having failed to guide the side to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions league.

“It has been a good week with a lot of hard work in preparation for Sunday. We have had friendly matches with Wakiso Giants and Maroons and they were good, with a lot of focus on ball possession.”

Said Neiva before adding,

“Yes, there’s pressure of wanting to defend the title but we have to focus on winning our games.” We have a strong group, believe in the team and they are really good.”

Playing away means different grounds, different style, alot of physical contact and things like that. So we shall try to play and also not to lose alot of our style.” Neiva told the club website.

Gaddafi on the other hand are coached by David Mutono who replaced Wasswa Bbosa.

He will be seeking for a positive start to the campaign.

Last season, Gaddafi prevailed 1-0 past Vipers SC at Kakindu Stadium.

Vipers will look up to Yunus Sentamu and Mauritanian national Mohamed Salem Ekbad for inspiration.

The Venoms will be without Fabien Mutombora (Groin), Patrick Mbowa (Groin), Hilary Mukundane (PCL) and Fumador Asiwome (Strain).

Benson Muhindo and Baker Buyala are expected to lift up the hosts attack.

April 2022:- Vipers SC 2-0 Gaddafi FC

December 2022:- Gaddafi 1-0 Vipers
