Vipers to seal fifth title with win over reigning champions Express

David GOMBE

Vipers SC will seal a fifth Uganda Premier league title with victory over Express FC on Friday evening at the St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The Venoms are top of the UPL log with 61 points in 25 games, 14 above second placed KCCA FC. They have also won all their previous five league game.

Reigning champions Express are currently in 6th place with 42 points in 26 games.

The Red Eagles won the previous meeting with Vipers SC at Kitende last season, thanks to a John Byamukama sole strike and will be seeking to spoil the Venoms party.

Express have won three, lost one and drawn once in their last five league games.

They join long-term absentees Paul Willa, Ibrahim Orit, Umar Kyebatala and Fabien Mutombora.

Yunus Sentamu who missed the 2-0 victory over Gaddafi returns to the side after serving his suspension.

Express FC

The Red Eagles will be without skipper Enock Walusimbi and Daniel Shabene through suspension.

Charles Musiige, Sadick Ssekyembe and Murushid Juuko are expected to have a late fitness test.

What they say

Vipers SC midfielder Paul Mucureezi is confident they will win the game

“We are definitely ready to win but we don’t need to come with excitement that we have already won the trophy yet we haven’t. So, we need to come when we are ready for carson, have the aggressiveness that we usually have, the attitude of the players really matters a lot in the game.” Said Mucureezi

Express FC interim coach James Odoch

“Vipers is a strong and organized team, basically we’ve been working on our defence, Vipers are good at scoring through crosses like was the case in our last two meetings where they scored through the wings so all we have to do is cut off the wing supply but also we need to keep the ball more so that we frustrate them, I am certain if we do that well, we shall definitely earn maximum points”.
