NEC FC returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Kaaro Karungi at the Coffee Grounds in Bugolobi.
David Kiberu Tonny, Julius Walugembe and veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma were on target for the promotion hopefuls who had to negotiate the fixture without their inspirational skipper Marvin Kavuma.
Kiberu opened the scores in the 9th minute after being set up by Walugembe.
Walugembe turned into a scorer in the 48th minute with a well converted penalty following a handball in the area.
Sserunkuma put the icing on the cake with a nice finish following a brilliant interplay with Farouk Ssekayi in the 90th minute.
This was Sserunkuma’s second goal since joining NEC FC from MYDA FC in the mid-season transfer window.
Kaaro Karungi pulled one back in the 63rd minute through Ian Amanya’s penalty kick which later turned out as a consolation at the end of the match.
The win pushed NEC to 44 points, level with Mbarara City who lost their game 2-0 at Kyetume.
However, Mbarara City are second placed while NEC remain third since the former has a superior goal difference of (+20) compared to NEC’s (+17).
The Bugolobi based side will visit Northern Gateway in their next fixture whereas Mbarara City will take on table leaders Kitara FC in Hoima.
