Kitara clinch FUFA Big League title as NEC seal topflight status

Kitara FC beat Kaaro Karungi 1-0 to clinch their first ever FUFA Big League title on the final day of the 2022/23 season at Kigaya Grounds.

In form midfieder Paul Mucureezi scored the all important goal that secured the title for newly promoted Sam Ssimbwa coached side with a well struck penalty on Thursday.

The win saw Kitara end their Big League campaign with 61 points and were unbeaten after winning 13 and only drawing twice at their fortress Kigaya Grounds.

Meanwhile, National Enterprise Corporation Football Club (NEC FC) gained the final promotional spot after powering 4-1 past Kataka at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

NEC gained topflight status on the final day

The win that was inspired by a brace from Julius Walugembe with Tonny Kiberu and Marvin Kavuma scoring the other two goals saw the Bugolobi based side finish the 2022/23 FUFA Big League season in third place with 57 points three above fourth placed Police FC who were held 1-1 by Jinja North FC.

Mbarara finished as runners up despite their 3-0 win over relegated Northern Gateway at Kakyeka Stadium.

Kitara, Mbarara City and NEC gained topflight status while Soroti City FC, Luweero United and Northern Gateway SC were relegated from the FUFA Big League.
