Uganda Cranes shot stopper Ismail Watenga has joined South Africa’s DStv Premiership club Lamontville Golden Arrows FC, it is official.
Watenga joins the Durban based club on a one year loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns.
He has been training with Golden Arrows before being unveiled by the club on the eve of the 2023/24 season kickoff on Thursday evening.
Watenga spent last season at Marumo Gallants on loan from Sundowns and previously featured for Chippa United two years ago.
The former St. Marys Kitende and Vipers custodian also had stints with Ethiopia Bunna in Ethiopia and Kenya’s Sofapaka FC.
He could make his debut as Golden Arrows host Moroka Swallows on Saturday at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Durban.
The 2023/24 DStv Premiership season kicks off on Friday evening as Mamelodi Sundowns visit Sekhukhune United.
Golden Arrows, nicknamed as Abafana Bes’thende, finished 9th on the league table with 38 points from 30 games played.
