TRANSFERS: Kizito Luwaga joins new club in Europe

Uganda Cranes forward William Kizito Luwaga has joined Israeli second tier club Hapoel Rishon LeZion on a one year contract, Swift Sports can confirm.

Luwaga joins the Israeli club as a free agent after his contract with Azerbaijani side FK Sabail expired at the end of last season.

He returns to Israel having previously featured for Hapoel Nof Haglil and Hapoel Kfar Saba in the topflight two years.

Hapoel Rishon LeZion now becomes his 11th club in Europe since he left Bunamwaya (Vipers) 11 years ago.

He played for Portuguese sides Leixoes SC, Sporting Covilha, Rio Ave and CD Feirense, between 2012 -2017.

He thereafter featured for Politehnica Iași in Romania, BATE Borisov in Belarus, Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan before moving to Israel in 2020.

He left Israeli for Azerbaijani last year having featured for Hapoel Kfar Saba in 2020/21 and Hapoel Nof HaGalil in 2021/22.

A move back to Israel makes his the third Ugandan plying his trade in the country after defenders Timothy Awany and Aziz Kayondo who feature for Ashdod FC and Hapoel Tel Aviv respectively.

His new club was formed 83 years ago based in the city of Rishon LeZion and will be vying for promotion to the topflight at the end of this new 2023/24 season.
