Newbies NEC FC have been handed a baptism of fire and consequently a rough consecration into Uganda’s elite football league.
Following their impressive start, it was no coincidence that it was the league’s record champions who put NEC to sword by handing them a thorough beating of three unanswered goals.
Umaru Lutalo and Arnold Odongo scored two, coupled with an own goal by John Paul Acire to hand Villa a comfortable 3-0 lead by halftime.
Hussein Mbalangu’s men tried to stage an early fight back in the second period but for Rashid Okocha’s profligacy, NEC’s best chances were put to waste.
Former Vipers striker Rwothomio Cromwell Abang was thrown into the deep end but his relentless pursuit for a breakthrough came a little too late to cause any damage.
Villa’s defence marshalled by man of the match Arnold Odong proved impregnable and ended up recording their first cleansheet on the 3rd time trying.
Villa move up to 6th place with 4 points and their visitors remain second on the log with 6 points.
Next in line for Villa is a trip to Kitende against nemesis Vipers SC, whereas NEC will host UPDF at Lugogo on 20th after the international break.
