Stanbic Uganda Cup: Kitara kick out holders Vipers to reach maiden semifinal

Kitara FC cruised to the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after eliminating holders Vipers SC 5-4 in post match spot kicks.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw after normal time and extra time at Masindi Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

Yunus Ssentamu opened the scoring in the 50th minute of the entertaining contest.

In the 67th minute, Referee Ali Sabilla awarded the hosts a penalty after Rogers Torach was judged to have fouled Jude Semugabi.

Replays however showed there was literally no contact.

Paul Mucureezi a former Venom was a entrusted with the opportunity and calmly beat Jack Komakech from 12 yards.

Both sides had to settle for a one-all draw in normal time as the game went all the way to extra time.

In added time of the first period of extra time, Vipers were awarded a penalty with substitute Bright Anukani converting to give the visitors the lead.

Kitara were again awarded another penalty after defender Hillary Mukundane handled the ball in the forbidden area.

Mucureezi once again too the responsibility and restored parity for Brian Ssenyondo coached side.

The winner was to be decided on penalties with Goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba saving Abdul Karim Watambala’s penalty.

Anukani, Patrick Mbowa and Rogers Torach scored theirs.

Kabon Living, Paddy Muhumuza, Dudu Ramathan, Denis Omedi and Paul Mucureezi all scored for Kitara.

Kitara join Pajule Lions, NEC FC and BUL FC into the semifinals of the 50th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Vipers who won the Uganda Cup last year will now turn focus on the Uganda Premier league and will next face their tormentors Kitara at the same venue on Friday, 19th April.
