Kitara FC and NEC FC will face off in this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup Final slated for Saturday, 25th May at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
NEC FC head coach Hussein Mbalangu who won the competition while at SC Villa as a player in 2000 is confident that his charges will prevail.
“Although the team appeared fatigued due to the long season, we have had a week to recover and hopefully by Saturday the players will have rested enough and recovered. We also know the magnitude of the game thus we shall have to work hard to win the Cup. I am not under any pressure because I have won the trophy as a player and have also reached several finals as a coach especially in Somalia.”
“We are a different team from the one that played last weekend against SC Villa in the final game of the league. I want to assure our fans to be ready for a revamped team that is hungry for victory.” He added.
His counterpart, Brian Ssenyondo believes his side will be motivated after overcoming strong teams such as SC Villa and Vipers on their way to the final
“Overcoming stiff competition from powerhouse teams like SC Villa FC and Vipers FC has been a valuable learning experience for us. By successfully navigating these challenging matches, we have emerged stronger and more resilient making us well prepared and confident as we head into the final.” Said Kitara’s Ssenyondo
Both sides will be contesting in their maiden final at Wankulukuku.
The winner will walk away with Shs50M while the runners up are to bag Shs25M courtesy of main sponsors Stanbic Bank.
The winner will also represent Uganda at the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
