Ethiopian giants St. George have expressed their interest in Uganda Cranes and SC Villa offensive midfielder Umar Lutalo.
According to FUFA TV’s Spotlight Show, Lutalo is a top transfer target for the Ethiopian giants.
Lutalo’s employment contract with SC Villa is expected to expire in about two months and efforts of a possible extension have been futile.
He is expected to follow defender Kenneth Semakula who has confirmed his departure from the newly crowned league champions today morning a week after guiding Villa to their first league title after 20 years.
Just like his departing captain, Lutalo joined the Jogoos in 2021 on a three year contract.
He has previously featured for the national U20 Team The Hippos and he is currently part of Paul Put’s Uganda Cranes squad that will face Algeria and Botswana in the World Cup Qualifiers next month.
In fact, Lutalo earned his maiden senior national team call in November last year during the ongoing campaign as Uganda played against Guinea and Somalia in Morocco.
During his three season spell with the league record champions, Lutalo has proved to be a vital and versatile player featuring in a total of 54 league games and scoring 10 goals.
The former Aspire Academy player can ably play as a left back, a left winger and an offensive midfielder.
In case he joins St. George, Lutalo will follow the footsteps of a host of Ugandan players who have previously featured for Ethiopia Premier League record champions.
