FUFA Women’s Cup continues to elude Kawempe Muslim

The FUFA Women’s Cup remains as the only missing piece in the Kawempe Muslim golden trophy cabinet.

The newly crowned FUFA Women Super League champions were once again eliminated in the early stages of the FUFA Women Cup after suffering a 5-4 penalty shoot defeat to Byafaayo Queens (Amus College) at the Valley Ground.

The encounter ended goalless at full-time and a post match penalty shoot out decided the fate as youngster Hadijah Babirye missed her penalty and consequently meant Kawempe are ejected on the round of 16 stage.

The defeat came only four days after the Ayub Khalifa coached side were crowned as the champions of the 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League.

This is the fifth time Kawempe have disappointedly suffered elimination and fell short of winning the knockout based tournament.

In the maiden edition of the tournament (2017), Kawempe were eliminated by the now defunct Muteesa I Royal University 1-0 in the quarter finals courtesy of Janat Nakibuuka’s lone goal.

In 2018, She Corporate eliminated Kawempe on the quarter final stage via a post match penalty shoot in the Valley following a goalless draw.

In 2019, Olila High School beat Kawempe 2-0 in Soroti and consequently eliminated them on the round of 16 stage.

Last season, Kawempe were eliminated at the semi-final stage by Uganda Martyrs courtesy of a 1-0 aggregate scoreline thanks to a Viola Namuddu first leg goal.

The five time league champions will be hoping to break the jinx in the next edition to add the missing piece of gold in the illustrious trophy cabinet.

Byafaayo Queens (Amus College) will face Wakiso Hill in the quarter final slated for Sunday 2nd June at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
