Wakiso Giants have confirmed the appointment of Steven Bengo and Tonny Mawejje as head coach and assistant coach respectively.
As earlier reported by this website, the former Uganda Cranes duo replaces John Ayala Luyinda who has been at the helms of the Purple Sharks for the last two seasons.
Bengo and Mawejje, both have been handed a three year employment contract.
“Welcome to the Purple Family! We are thrilled to announce Steven Bengo as our new Head Coach and Tonny Mawejje as his Assistant.
Exciting times ahead for the Sharks.” Wakiso confirmed the appointment on their social media platforms.
Bengo has previously served as assistant coach at Wakiso Giants and also temporarily worked as interim head coach at the club in 2019 following the departure of Deo Sserwadda.

As a player, Bengo featured for SC Villa, KCCA FC, Soana, Wakiso Giants in the Uganda Premier league.
He also played the outside Uganda in Rwanda (Kiyovu), Tanzania (Young Africans) and Kenya at Nakumatt.
Mawejje on the other hand has been working as assistant coach at Kampala Queens.

During his time as a player, Mawejje managed 83 national team caps and scored 8 goals.
He played for defunct Masaka LC, KCCA FC, URA FC, Police FC in Uganda.
Outside Uganda, Mawejje played for Iceland’s IBV Vestmannaeyjar, Haugesund in Norway, Throttur, KF Tirana in Albania and a short stint in South Africa and Kuwait with Golden Arrows and Al Arabi SC respectively.
Last season, the Purple Sharks finished 11th on the Uganda Premier league table with 32 points.
