On Sunday, 18th August, angry Mawogola fans invaded the pitch during their Masaza Cup group game against Buwekula.

Buwekula was leading 1-0 at the time Mawogola fans stormed the pitch, claiming that referee Vincent Kavuma had refused to award their side a penalty kick.

The angry fans wanted to beat the match officials for failing to award a penalty kick and one ended up throwing a stone at Buwekula technical director Ibrahim Kirya.

The match officials were seen running for safety in a bid to rescue their lives from the goons.

Kirya was hospitalized to a nearby hospital for medication. This website understands that Kirya’s condition has greatly improved.

The game was abandoned following the ugly scenes and a decision from the Masaza Cup organizing Committee is expected this week.

The incidents however make one of the most inflated competitions in the country turn into one of the worst.
