Masaza Cup: Busujju storm quarterfinal stage as Buddu go top of Bulange Group

Nine games were played over the weekend on match day 9 of the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup.

Busujju prevailed to the quarterfinal stage with a narrow away victory over Kabula on Sunday, thanks to a Eddie Bulwanyi sole goal.

Busujju’s victory takes them to 19 points level with Kabula in Masengere Group and both sides are into the knockout phase.

Still in the same group, Ssese powered 3-0 past Buvuma, courtesy of Marvin Tumukunde, Diara Umar Muzungu and Sabil Muhammad goals.

Busiro and Mawokota shared spoils in a goalless draw.

Buddu came from a goal down to beat Bugerere 2-1 in the Bulange group game on Sunday. Joseph Kayondo and Mike Walaga scored for the two time Masaza winners while Marvin Busuulwa netted for Bugerere.

The victory saw Buddu go top of the group with 14 points and await the verdict in their game against Kyaddondo that ended prematurely.

Meanwhile, Kyaddondo smiled to a 2-1 win over Buluuli with Isaac Ssenyunja and Dathan Mubiru scoring for the Meddie Nyanzi coached side. Robert Ssewanyana scored for Buluuli.

Butambala shred reigning champions Bulemeezi 4-0 in the other Bulange group game that was played on Saturday. Matthew Luswabi, Lamech Mwebaza and Yusuf Kato scored the four goals for Butambala.

In Muganzirwaza group, Kyaggwe returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 win away to Mawogola. Ivan Braves Kalyowa scored a brace with Julius Kabule Kato scoring the other.

Jamir Nyanzi found a consolation for Mawogola.

Buwekula and Kooki shared spoils in a 1-1 all draw with Sharafah Mukiibi scoring for the hosts while Fredrick Kakande netted for Kooki.

Ssingo suffered their first defeat of the campaign away to Gomba, courtesy of a Felix Wafula sole strike in the first period.

The final Group games are due this weekend to determine the teams that will join Ssingo, Kabula, Busujju, Buwekula into the quarterfinals.
