Masar FC 1-0 Mamelodi Sundowns

Crested Cranes duo of Shadia Nankya and Aisha Nantongo inspired Egyptian champions Masar FC to a 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Group B opener of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

Nankya was subsequently named the Player of the Match at full-time following her outstanding defensive exploits against the defending champions.

Burundian prolific striker Sandrine Niyonkuru scored the all important goal through a penalty at the stroke of halftime.

Masar FC (formerly known as Tutankhamun FC) recently signed Nankya and Nantongo ahead of the regional qualifiers which were held in August in Algeria.

Nankya was signed from UCU Lady Cardinals while Nantongo was a free agent after parting ways with Danish side Aalborg BK.

Masar will play against Nigeria’s EDO Queens in their next group game on Wednesday 13th November.

EDO Queens opened their campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 win over CECAFA regional champions CBE (Commercial Bank of Ethiopia) of Ethiopia.

Group A of the tournament consists of AS FAR (Morocco), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), University of Western Cape (South Africa) and Senegal’s Aigles de la Medina.

The eventual winning team of this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League will receive USD 600,000.
