Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga will have an evening to forget following a blunder that led to Thapelo Morena’s 49th minute strike that put South Africa in front in a match where Uganda were entirely second best.

The former Vipers and SC Villa midfielder was caught in possession and lost the ball that led to South Africa’s break through.

The action was Taddeo Lwanga’s final contribution in the match after he was stretched off seemingly injured.

During the post match press briefing, Cranes head coach Paul Put was asked to update the media on the extent of Lwanga’s injury.

Lwanga was caught in possession and the Cranes conceded the first goal of the evening

The Belgian revealed that Lwanga’s injury wasn’t one to worry about as it wasn’t severe.

“I haven’t been able to engage with the medical team to asses what really happened but I believe it wasn’t a serious one”.

He said.

Paul Put added that Lwanga might have failed to deal with the blunder he committed and chose to leave the pitch altogether.

“I don’t think it was a bad injury, he committed a reckless mistake and he failed to deal with it so he chose to be substituted.

Uganda will play against Congo Brazzaville on Tuesday 19th in the final match of the AFCON qualifiers to Morocco.
