Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put not impressed with his players following their 2-0 defeat over South Africa at Namboole.
South Africa ascended to the top of Group K of the qualifying campaign thanks to second half goals from substitutes James Thapelo Morena and Patrick Maswanganyi.
Put whose side lost their first game in the qualifiers of the 2025 AFCON didn’t like the performance of his team but believes his charges can bounce back away to Congo.
“We didn’t play well and lost possession at crucial moments. I am not happy with the performance, but we must keep our heads up because we have a game against Congo in a few days. We need to win that to make our fans happy.” Said the Belgian after the game
Uganda sealed a place in next year’s AFCON after South Sudan beat Congo 3-2 on Thursday.
The Cranes had missed out on the previous two editions (2021 and 2023). They last featured in Africa’s biggest football competition in 2019.
Put and his men will end their qualification campaign on Tuesday away to Congo Brazzaville.
