CAF Awards: Onana shortlisted for Goalkeeper of the Year

The governing body of African football has announced the shortlists of nominees for the forthcoming CAF Awards 2024.

Manchester United goalkeeper and Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana is the running for goalkeeper of the year accolade.

Onana has had a decent start to the 2024/25 season with strong performances between the sticks for English Giants Man United.

He has the most clean-sheets (five) in the English Premier league so far this term.

He was also instrumental for Cameroon as they secured a place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

At Man United , Onana was named as the club’s Player of the Month for September.

For 2024 goalkeeper of the year gong, Onana will battle with 2023 AFCON winner Yahia Fofana (Cote d’Ivoire / Angers SCO), Mostafa Shobeir (Egypt / Al Ahly), Stanley Nwabali (Nigeria / Chippa United) and Ronwen Wlliams (South Africa / Mamelodi Sundowns).

Ronwen Williams and Nwabali both had decent AFCON campaigns in Ivory Coast earlier this year while Shobeir played a pivotal role in Al Ahly CAF Champions League triumph.

The winners in each category will be announced at the glamourous ceremony due to take place in Morocco on December, 16th.
