Crested Cranes center back Shadia Nankya has been named among the nominees for the CAF Interclub Women’s Player of the Year in the 2024 CAF Awards.
Nankya who currently plays for Egyptian champions Masar FC (formerly known as Tutankhamun FC) is among the outstanding performers in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
Nankya was named in the Best XI of the tournament’s group stages after guiding Masar FC to the semi finals at the expense of the two time champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The former Uganda Martyrs and UCU Lady Cardinals defender was also named the Player of the Match as Masar FC beat Sundowns 1-0 in their opening game of the group stages.
Other nominees vying for the accolade include Morocco’s experienced keeper Khadijah Er-Rmichi, Sanaa Mssoudy, Doha El Madani, Amogelang Motau, Monle Oyono, Merveille Nanguji, Lacho Flora Marta, Emem Essien and Burundian striker Sandrine Niyonkuru.
The 2024 CAF Awards will be held on 16 December 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.
