Waiswa Cosia scored a second half goal to hand coach Asaph Mwebaze his maiden victory since taking over the helms at the Eastern based side.
Mwebaze was also facing his former paymasters Soltilo Bright Stars whom he coached last season.
Bright Stars are under the interim leadership of Ian Mutenda who has faced back to back defeats for the first time after also losing to Maroons FC last week.
This was an affair of two basement sides that have been dragged into an early relegation dog fight. They came into this match having won a single game apiece.
The win lifts Mbale Heroes out of the Red zone with 8 points, one above Kitara who face a daunting task against Vipers SC on Saturday.
Soltilo Bright Stars takeover the last position with just 5 points out of 10 matches. They will hope to find redemption when they host Vipers at Kavumba on December 7th.
Mbale Heroes will visit fellow strugglers Kitara on the same match day.
