Uganda Premier league leaders NEC FC dropped points in a 1-1 draw away to URA FC on Thursday at Nakivubo Stadium.

Alex Isabirye’s side were the dominant side in the first period and got a deserved lead through Godfrey Ssekibengo whose low shot beat NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo in the 23rd minute.

Moments after the half hour mark, Moses Aliro and James Begisa had a decent chance to double the tax collectors advantage but both failed to hit the target with the goal at their disposal.

After the recess, Hussein Mbalangu introduced Allan Mugalu for veteran midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba.

Unlike in the first half, the league leaders were the dominant side in the second period.

The dominance paid off in the 66th minute when Paul Mucureezi restored parity.

Five minutes later, URA were reduced to ten men when Hudu Mulikyi was shown red by referee Mashood Ssali for retaliation on Enock Ssebaggala.

In the final minute of regulation time, returning Atendele Geriga cleared Joseph Ssemujju’s goal bound opportunity off the line.

Mucureezi also came close to sealing the points for the visitors in added time but his shot was blocked by URA FC defender Enock Walusimbi.

Mbalangu’s side remain top of the league standings with 23 points while URA are now on 15 points.
