Retired Referee Richard Kimbowa has confirmed being threatened by unknown people following his interview with Uganda Fan TV over match fixing scandals.
In the interview Kimbowa blasted the administrators over the referees poor welfare in the country.
According to Kimbowa, he received two threatening interviews for boldly coming out to fight for the referees in the country.
“I have received two emails, the first one was an anonymous email and I was told that two people have lost their lives and two were poisoned as a result of talking about the referees issues in Uganda. I have already contacted the Police here and I am hopeful I will be able to identify those who sent the emails. So, I am happy to be able to talk about what’s happening in regards to the referees.”
Said Kimbowa before adding,
“I will be in Uganda in three weeks time so anyone who wants to harm me then that person should go ahead. Personally, I cannot allow myself to live in a society that is full of injustices. Names of referees are tarnished not just because of their wrong actions but for name and shame.” These referees have families and other jobs, they can easily lose them due to stories regarding their match fixing.” Said Kimbowa
