Kenya National senior team head coach Engin Firat has resigned from his role just weeks after the Harambee Stars failed to qualify for the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The development was confirmed by new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Hussein Mohammed on Tuesday, December 11, during a press conference in Kasarani.

“I would like to point out that the national team coach terminated his contract through a notice that was issued at the beginning of this week. We will be looking at the way forward once we have internal consultations with the technical team and secretariat at the Federation.” Said Mohammed.

Mohammed also stated that Firat decided to resign over unpaid salary.

The New FKF boss said they will start the process of finding a replacement after a meeting with the newly elected National Executive (NEC) members.

Kenya’s failure to qualify for the continental showpiece proved to be the final straw for the Turkish tactician Firat, who has endured a turbulent last few months as Harambee Stars coach.

The Harambee Stars finished third in Group J which consisted of winners Cameroon, second-placed Zimbabwe Namibia.

Firat’s three year contract was due to expire in 2026 and now the new FKF executive will turn focus on identifying his replacement before the CHAN tournament that will be Co-hosted in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania
