One of the most experienced referees in Ugandan football Ali Cherangat Sabila has announced that he will not be officiating and more matches .
The revelation comes after it was confirmed that Sabila was dropped from the list of Uganda’s FIFA badge holders which has among others Dick Okello, Joshua Duula, William Oloya, Lucky Kasalirwe and George Olemu.
Compatriot Mashood Ssali has also been dropped.
According to an interview conducted with CK Sports, Sabila reaffirmed that his decision was entirely based on the loss of his much coveted FIFA badge.
“FUFA has forced me to retire, the Federation talks a lot about IFP (Integrity, Fitness and
outstanding and I am happy they have dropped me when I was at the peak of my career”
He added.
In 2023, the experienced referee was under unclear circumstances when he was bound to officiate at the Total Energies CAF U20 AFCON.
In his impressive career, he took charge of some of the biggest matches in the Uganda Premier league and many on the continent including a CAF Champions league affair between Al Hilal of Sudan and FC Salaam Bor of South Sudan in 2023.
He was also in charge of a CAF Confederation cup tie between Al Hilal Elobeid and Namungo FC of Tanzania in 2021.
