Uganda Cranes left back Aziz Kayondo believes that his move to Czech Republic’s Slovan Liberec fuels him for bigger dreams.
Kayondo who left Vipers SC in 2022 for greener pastures told SportsBoom.com, that he does not plan to return to the Uganda Premier league anytime soon.
“There’s no returning to the Ugandan league anytime soon, this is not because I hate my country, but the dreams I harbor are bigger. The intention is to set a good precedent that a Ugandan player can come from scratch and make it to the very top.
“What I have learnt is that when you’re good and work hard, nothing can stop your journey to greatness. Nobody cares where you’re from, but the delivery, effort and commitment. If it’s not for the very top I’m not interested, that’s how I operate,” Said Kayondo before adding,
“Given where I came from, I’m more than sure I will play in a top five European league. I’ll play there and serve as the example for the generations coming up. This is the main goal; to inspire many, and turn my entire country’s view of professional football.”Kayondo added
Kayondo managed 14 games and scored one goal for Slovan Liberec in his first season. The former Vipers SC left back played a vital role for the Uganda Cranes as they returned to the AFCON Final tournament after missing out on the previous two editions.
Kayondo scored for the Uganda Cranes during their 2-0 triumph over Congo Brazzaville in the AFCON 2025 Qualifier match in September last year at Namboole Stadium.
In 2022, Kayondo left Vipers and had his first stint abroad with Real Monarchs in USA.
He has also featured for Spain’s Leganes, Czech Republic second tier club MFK Vyskov and Israel side Hapoel Tel Aviv.
