Six time Uganda Premier league champions Vipers SC have confirmed the death of their Nigerian forward Abubaker Lawal.
According to a statement from the club, Lawal’s body has been transferred to a medical facility for a postpartum.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning.”
“He’s body has been transferred to a medical facility for postmortem examination. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”
There is however no official confirmation regarding the cause of Lawal’s death.
Lawal was unused substitute during Vipers 2-0 win over Mbarara City FC in Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 tie at Kitende.
He last featured for the six time Uganda Premier league against KCCA FC when he replaced Moses Waiswa in the 85th minute at Lugogo.
This season, Lawal had made eight league appearances for Vipers.
He joined the Kitende based side in July 2022 from Rwanda’s AS Kigali where he had spent two season.
Lawal had also previously played in the Nigerian Premier League with Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC and FC Nasarawa.
