The Mashemeji derby between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia which is Kenya’s biggest club fixture is set to be hosted in Uganda or Tanzania due to uncertainty over the availability of Moi International Stadium.

The two sides are scheduled to lock horns on Sunday, 2nd March as by the official fixtures released by FKF.

AFC Leopards Chairman Daniel Shikanda has proposed that the game be hosted outside Kenya since Moi International Stadium is under renovations ahead of the rescheduled 2024 African Nations Championships due in August.

“We may not play in Kasarani and I can’t accept the fixture to be played at Dandora or Kenyatta in Machakos because these venues can’t stage such a big fixture.”

“How would you move the canopy at Kasarani which is a construction site? Shikanda wondered.

“As of now, the game is scheduled for Sunday but there is no venue and I don’t know where they will play. Let FKF plan so that we can play in Tanzania or Uganda where Harambee Stars staged their matches.

“For now, as the host team, we just have to wait and if there is no convenient venue, then the fixture will be postponed or will go to Uganda or Tanzania.”Stated Shikanda as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Originally this fixture was scheduled for November, 23rd last year but was postponed due to the renovations of both Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums.

Two points separate both sides with Gor Mahia third on the Kenya Premier league table with 36 points while AFC Leopards are 5th with 34 points.
