Where Uganda ranks in World Cup qualifiers top scorers’ charts

The African continent is guaranteed nine places at the 2026 World Cup in North America with a possible tenth on the line but who is the top scorer in the qualifiers after match day five.

Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah leads the scorer’s charts in the Africa World Cup Qualifiers after the conclusion of match day 5 on Sunday.

Salah has replicated his Liverpool form and leads the charts with six goals in the qualifiers. His nation has so far netted 13 goals and lead Group A with 13 points, after managing four wins and a draw.

Salah’s goals came in the 6-0 thrashing of Djibouti in the opening round when he netted four before scoring against Guinea Bissau and most recently in the 2-0 win over Ethiopia on Friday.

Salah’s fellow countryman Mahmoud Trezeguet has scored five goals in the qualifiers. He scored a brace in Egypt’s 2-0 win over Sierra Leone on Match day 2, a goal against Djibouti and another brace against Burkina Faso on match day 5.

Denis Bouanga also has five goals for Gabon. The MLS star found his first of the qualifiers in a 2-1 win over Kenya on Match Day 1.

The forward continued with his goal-scoring form on Match Day 2 with a contribution to another 2-1 win which came at the expense of Burundi.

Bouanga returned on Match Day 4 with another goal contribution to a 3-2 win over The Gambia, before getting his fourth and fifth through a brace in a 3-0 win over Seychelles on Match Day 5.

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew is leading his nation from the front as the country’s top goalscorer of the qualifiers with five goals.

He struck a hat-trick in Ghana’s 4-3 win over Central Africa Republic, a last minute strike in a dramatic 2-1 win over Mali.

His fifth came in the 5-0 shredding of Chad in Match Day 5 of the qualifiers.

Mali’s attacking midfielder, Kamory Doumbia has netted five times for his nation’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers campaign.

Doumbia scored in Mali’s 3-1 win over Chad on Match Day 1 with his second coming in the 1-1 draw on Match Day 2 against the Central African Republic before getting the third in 2-1 loss against Ghana on Match Day 3.

Doumbia’s fourth and fifth came on Match Day 5 with a stunning brace that contributed to Mali’s 3-0 win over Comoros.

Musa Barrow (Gambia) 4, Rayan, Raveloson (Madagascar)4, Steve Mounie (Benin) 3, Bertrand Traore (Burkina Faso)3 as well as Lassina Traore (Burkina Faso)3 are the other notable scorers in the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s Muhammad Shaban leads the scorer’s charts for the Cranes in the qualifiers with two goals coming against Botswana and  Mozambique. Fahad Bayo, Travis Mutyaba and Rogers Mato are the other scorers for Uganda.
