Steven Mukwala’s Simba SC will be aiming for CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal first leg advantage when they face off with Egyptian side Al Masry on Wednesday at New Suez Canal Stadium.

Simba have failed to advance past the quarterfinal stage since 2018/19, losing four during that time.

Coach Fadlu Davids believes Simba’s experience away from home that includes a win in Tunisia, a draw in Libya, and a commendable performance despite a loss in Algeria will be key in Egypt.

“We have performed exceptionally well in our previous away matches, demonstrating control and dominance. Our primary objective for this match is to secure a positive result to take back to Dar es Salaam.”

“We aim to score an away goal, which would provide us with a significant advantage. We recognize Al Masry as a strong opponent, but we have conducted thorough analysis.”

This will be Simba’s fourth game away in North Africa this season and face a strong Al Masry side sitting fourth on the Egyptian Premier league table with 31 points.

In contrast, Simba dominated Group A with 13 points (four wins, one draw, one loss), finishing ahead of CS Constantine, Bravos Do Maquis, and CS Sfaxien.

Simba last reached the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals in the 2021/22 season, where they were eliminated by South African side Orlando Pirates on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw.
