Abdul Karim Watambala scored the all important goal as Vipers SC edged Lugazi 1-0 to establish their five point lead at the top of the Uganda Premier league.
The Venoms came into the contest back of a 1-0 defeat at reigning league champions SC Villa.
Watambala who was suspended for the trip to Wankulukuku struck in the second period as Vipers returned to winning ways and remain unbeaten at home this term.
The midfielder sensationally powered the home side into the deserved lead in the 68th minute of the contest.
Before Watambala’s goal, Vipers had created several scoring opportunities with Isaac Ogwang, Allan Okello, Marvin Youngman and Yunus Sentamu failing to hit the target.
Vipers stay at the top of the table and are now five points above second placed NEC FC who play UPDF FC on Friday. Meanwhile, Soltilo Bright Stars humbled Police FC 3-1 in the Kavumba Derby on Thursday.
