Vipers SC needed a late Yunus Sentamu strike to take a Stanbic Uganda Cup first advantage in the game that was played at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Saturday.
Sentamu replaced Pedro Sukuya in the second half of the contest and scored a late strike in added time to leave Kitara FC fans in agony as the Venoms went into esctsty.
Before Sentamu’s goal, the Venoms had numerous scoring opportunities early in the first half with Milton Karisa and Allan Okello the culprits for the missed chances.
Kitara on the other hand had an early goal scoring opportunity but Patrick Kaddu had his header cross the bar.
Ssemugabi also had his effort go wide in the tense contest at Kitende.
Vipers had more of the ball in the second period and Gusto Mulongo who was also a second half substitute missed a seater.
With frustrations all-over at the Kitende based side, Sentamu fired the Venoms into the lead with the last kick of the game to send the fans into delight.
Vipers will visit Kitara FC on Saturday 17th May for the return leg but before they will first host Mbale Heroes on Wednesday at Kitende.
Kitara FC are the holders and will need a 2-0 victory over Kitara at Butema to progress the final.
Victory also sees Vipers keep their domestic Journey alive a fate they last achieved two years ago under Alex Isabirye Musongola.
