Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has announced the arrival of a significant consignment of cricket equipment from its long-standing partners, Bankstown District Cricket Club (BDCC) of New South Wales, Australia.
This latest shipment, packed with vital sporting gear including a turf roller, wicket covers, t-shirts, balls, bats,pads, gloves, thigh guards, abdominal guards, helmets, and coaching literature, reaffirms the strong bond that
has flourished between Uganda and Bankstown for over two decades.
The equipment will be deployed across
UCA’s grassroots and development programmes to benefit players, coaches, and officials countrywide.
The Uganda-Bankstown partnership dates back to 2005, shortly after initial ties were forged during Uganda’s
debut appearance at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2004. At the time, a set of U-19 players and team officials engaged with Australia’s U-19 Team Manager Brian Freedman – then a senior cricket administrator with Cricket New South Wales and Cricket Australia – sowing the seeds of a lasting relationship that has grown stronger with time.
The arrival of this container adds another chapter to the collaboration that has seen regular equipment donations and knowledge exchange between the two cricketing bodies.
UCA Chairman Jackson Kavuma, who has been instrumental in ensuring the successful delivery of the container, expressed his heartfelt gratitude.
“This donation is a reminder of how far we’ve come and what strong, lasting partnerships can achieve. We are deeply thankful to Bankstown District CC for walking this journey with us for 20 years and counting.
Special praise is reserved for Bankstown Chairman John Murray who donated a roller. The impact of this latest shipment will be felt not just in the immediate season, but in shaping the game’s future.”
Echoing the chairman’s sentiments, UCA CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa, who oversaw the operational coordination of the shipment, added:
“The equipment will not only enhance grassroots-level playing experience but also provide valuable training
opportunities to various stakeholders. We greatly appreciate Bankstown for their continued commitment to
supporting the growth of cricket in Uganda. We’re confident that this donation will significantly move
cricket development forward.”
The consignment, carefully coordinated through consistent communication with BDCC Honorary Secretary Martin Klumpp, reaffirms UCA’s mission to uplift the sport through strategic partnerships and community focused initiatives.
UCA remains committed to nurturing young talent and strengthening the game’s foundations in the country efforts that are made easier with such heartfelt contributions from friends across
the globe.
