Crested Cranes coach Sheryl Botes has named Zainah Namuleme as the team captain for the CECAFA Women’s Championship that kicks off this Friday in Dar es Salaam.

Namuleme, who plays for Makerere University in the Women Super League, is one of the most experienced players in the Crested Cranes squad selected for the tournament.

In fact, Namuleme will be playing in her 4th CECAFA Women’s tournament having previously featured in the 2016, 2018 and 2019 editions.

The former Kampala Queens skipper has had an impressive season with Makerere University that saw her scored nine goals.

She will be deputized by Zainah Nandede who was recently named as the Best Player in the FUFA Awards held about a fortnight ago.

Goalkeepers Ruth Aturo and Daisy Nakaziro alongside Shamirah Nalugya are the other senior players named in the Crested Cranes squad for the tournament.

Uganda will kick off the CECAFA campaign against Burundi today at 4pm at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

Kenya, South Sudan and hosts Tanzania are the other teams that will compete in the tournament that will be played in a Round Robin format.
