Uganda Cranes defender Toby Sibbick has completed a move to English League One side Burton Albion from Wigan Athletic.

Sibbick has signed a two year contract with Burton Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The lanky defender joined Wigan Athletic last year from Scotland’s Hearts FC on a two year contract.

He played a total of 39 games for Wigan Athletic across all competitions in the 2024/25 season.

The 26 year old defender can ably play as a center back but also as a right back and a defensive midfielder.

Sibbick was born in England to an English father Nigel Sibbick and a Ugandan mother and recently switched allegiance to Uganda early last year.

He made his Uganda Cranes debut in March 2024 during a friendly as Uganda drew 2-2 against Ghana’s Black Stars in Morocco.

He was also part of the Uganda Cranes team that drew 1-1 against Gambia in the most recent friendly games in June.

Just like Wigan, Sibbick’s new side Burton Albion also competes in The Sky Bet League One which is the third tier in the English Football hierarchy.

Burton Albion finished 20th on the League One table last season, five places behind Wigan Athletic who finished 15th on a table of 24 teams.

Sibbick has previously played for AFC Wimbledon and Barnsley in England, Hearts in Scotland and Belgian side KV Oostende.
