The Local organizing committee has assured Ugandans that they will watch the forthcoming Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) at affordable prices.
The development was confirmed by Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, the Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Committee during a media engagement on Monday at Copper Chimney in Lugogo.
The media engagement was attended by Mark Namanya, PR and Communications Manager at the CHAN/AFCON Secretariat, Dr Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communication and Signage Committee of the LoC, Rodgers Mulindwa, Vice Chairman of the LoC Communications Committee and Mr. William Fredrick Blick, Ex Officio Member of the LoC.
“We have been advised by CAF to make ticket prices affordable for CHAN. “At the moment, we were advised to consider a 1 $, 2 $ and 3 $ ticketing model for the ordinary, VIP and VVIP and each country will depend on that to price tickets. We shall publicly confirm the ticket prices by the end of next week.” Said Mugimba
Mugimba also asserted that they will launch a nationwide fan mobilization and media campaign to deepen public engagement and ownership of the tournament across the country
“We want every Ugandan to feel part of this moment. CHAN 2024 is not just about football, it’s about showcasing who we are as a nation.” He noted.
The Local organizing committee also revealed that the government of Uganda has injected $13 and AFCON 2027 ($ 30 million) as well as $ 750,000 for LED screens for Mandela National stadium, Namboole, the host stadium for the competition in Uganda.
Seven Hotels which include Four Points Sheraton, Hilton Hotel, Skyz Hotel Naguru, Serena Hotel Kampala and Sheraton Hotel, Kampala have been booked to accommodate teams and officials during the tournament.
According to LoC, 100 vehicles used during the recently concluded NAM conference will be used for inland transport.
They also plan to have a Single Pamoja Visa for accredited journalists and fans in case they are to watch games across the three host nations.
Four hospitals Mulago, Victoria University, Kisubi, Nakasero Hospital and Entebbe are to be used.
