For the first time in history, Uganda progressed to the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN). In the previous six editions, the Cranes journey has been ending at the group stage.
Uganda needed to avoid defeat against South Africa and so did Morley Byekwaso’s men with a dramatic 3-3 stalemate at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Allan Okello who has been instrumental in Cranes’ journey to the last eight is among the top scorers at the 2024 CHAN.
The Cranes Star boy has three goals at the event Co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
His goals came in Uganda’s 3-0 win over Guinea and also netted in the 2-0 victory against Niger before his late penalty strike in the 3-3 chaotic stalemate against South Africa.
Okello also assisted Joel Sserunjogi in 2-0 Group C win over Niger last week.

South Africa’s Thabiso Kutumela who has been impressive in the tournament despite his side bowing out at the Group phase also has three goals along with Morocco’s Oussama Lamlaoui.

Madagascar’s Ladislas Rafanomezantosa has two goals along with Mohamed Hrimat (Morocco), Jephté Kitambala (DR Congo, Ryan Ogam (Kenya), Austin Odhiambo (Kenya), Clement Mzize (Tanzania).
