Peruth Chemutai has Uganda’s aura of expectation at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo.

Team Uganda is yet to medal at the ongoing championships and will hope Chemutai delivers in Wednesday’s 3000m Steeplechase final due at 3:57Pm.

Tokyo is the place where Chemutai became the first ever Ugandan female athlete to medal at the Olympic games four years ago when she shocked the world to clinch a historic gold medal.

Chemutai knows the amount of expectation from her golden spikes as she sets sight to the world title to add to her collection at the place she made history.

She surged to the final with the fastest time of all the heats in the early morning hours of Monday. Chemutai clocked 9:07.68 in her heat three.

The Ugandan will seek to dethrone defending world champion and Olympic champion at the distance Winfred Yavi from Bahrain.

Yavi powered to the final with a time of 9:15.63 to win her heat two. At the Paris Olympics last year, she beat Chemutai to her Olympic title with the Ugandan settling for silver.

Both will renew their rivalry in today’s final.

In history, Uganda has won 13 medals at the World championship, fur by the iconic Cheptegei.
