Uganda’s CAF Confederation Cup representatives NEC FC have been knocked out of the competition on away goals rule after a 1-1 draw with Kenya’s Nairobi United FC on Saturday in the second leg at Nyayo Stadium.

NEC FC need to win to prevail to the next preliminary round after a 2-2 home draw last weekend at Nakivubo.

In Nairobi, Hussein Mbalangu coached side had a bright start to the contest when Charles Waibi gave them a first half lead.

At that time, Mbalangu’s men were on course of advancing to the next stage but a 65th Duncan Oluoch equaliser ended NEC FC’s continental dream.

Nairobi United’s goalkeeper Kevin Oduor twice denied Innocent Media in the first period of the contest.

After both legs, the aggregate score stood at 3-3, but Nairobi’s two goals away from home proved decisive.

Nairobi United will next face the aggregate winners between Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani and Tunisia’s ES Sportive in the final preliminary round. NEC FC on the other hand will turn focus to the league.
