The Uganda national U-17 team suffered a 2-1 defeat to North Americans Canada in their first ever U-17 World Cup match on Wednesday in Qatar.
James Bogere had given the Cubs a dream start in the 25th-minute of the Group K with a cool finish during Uganda’s first-ever appearance at a FIFA tournament.

The Canadians rallied back in the second half with two late goals from Elijah Roche and Marius Aiyenero stoppage time penalty.

Roche restored parity in the 88th minute with a timely headed off Aghilas Sadek’s corner before Aiyenero converted a penalty in stoppage time as Canada pulled off a Houdini-like 2-1 win over Brian Ssenyondo’s Cubs on Wednesday for their maiden victory in nine trips to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Christ Batola and Rémi Himbert handed France a 2-0 win over Chile in the other game in Group K.
Meanwhile, Uganda will seek to make amends when they take on Chile on Saturday, 8th November 2025.
