The 27th edition of the prestigious Kinyara Golf Open has officially been launched on Thursday, 6th November at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
According to the organizers this year’s event is expected to attract over 150 golfers with both international and local entrants set to feature.
Over the three days, from 13 to 15 November 2025, golf professionals, amateurs, and business leaders from across Uganda will converge in Masindi for a weekend of competition, networking, and celebration at the Kinyara Golf Club.
Representing Kinyara Limited, Francis Mugerwa the Public Relation Manager at the company asserted their commitment towards the tournament and sports in general.
“We are pleased to launch the 27th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open. This year the event will feature several categories, including the gross, professionals, subsidiaries, and seniors above 55 years, with prizes across each group. The gross category, for handicaps 0 to 10, will tee off on the 13th and conclude on the 14th after three rounds (54 holes), while professionals will play two rounds (36 holes).” Said Mugerwa.

Kinyara Golf Club Captain Moses Enzama asserted that over 100 golfers have already registered as he waits welcome everyone in Masindi
“More than 100 golfers from Uganda and across the region have registered to date for the 2025 and we expect over 200 golfers to take part.” Said Enzama
The Kinyara Open Golf Tournament is a partnership between Kinyara Sugar Limited and Insurance companies (ICEA LION, Liaison Group, UAP Old Mutual, Sanlam and MUA).
ICEA LION Uganda has injected Shs30M into the tournament.
“We have handed over our sponsorship contribution of UGX 30 million towards this year’s Kinyara Golf Tournament, scheduled to take place from November 13th to 15th at the Kinyara Golf Club in Masindi. We are proud to be part of the event yet again.” Said Moses Mugalu, Marketing & Communications Lead ICEA LION Uganda.

Professional golfers will battle over 54 holes for a grand prize of UGX 10 million. The men’s amateur gross winner will take home UGX 4 million, while the ladies’ gross champion will earn UGX 3 million.
The gross category (handicap 0 to 10) will tee off on the 13th and wind down on the 14th for three rounds (54 holes) alongside the professionals who will play two rounds (36 holes).
The gross players will also be vying for points on the World Amateur Golf Ranking System as the professionals haggle for the money at hand.
The main cluster of golfers will then get down to action on 15th November 2025 for 18 holes’ action.
Joseph Kasozi won the main gross event last year and will face stiff competition from the reigning Uganda Amateur Open Champion Joseph Cwinya-ai, Reagan Joseph Akena, Andrew Ssekibejja, Titus Okwong, Peter Tumusiime, John Musiimenta, Peter Mayende, Ibrahim Bagalana and the evergreen Michael Tumusiime, among others.
Meanwhile, Grace Kasango won the professionals event in 2024 and is expected to stage a successful title defence in a field that also has other professionals as the on-form David Kamulindwa, Vincent Byamukama, Marvin Kibirige, Irene Nakalembe, Herman Deco Mutebi, Rodel Tadeo Gaita, Abraham Ainamani, James Koto, Phillip Kasozi, Deo Akope, Herman Mutaawe, the Bagalana brothers, Henry Lujja, Opio Onito, Samuel Kato, Emmanuel Ogwang, among others.
