Uganda Cranes Belgian tactician Paul Joseph Put has extended his employment contract with FUFA ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations due to kick off in Morocco next month.

The Belgian replaced Serb Milutin Sredojevic alias Micho in November, 2023 on a two-year contract and has renewed his stay until 2028 as earlier reported by this website.

Put’s three year contract renewal was confirmed on Thursday at FUFA Kadiba Stadium by FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson.

The Belgian helped Uganda Cranes return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing out on the previous two editions and his side came close to sealing a historic World Cup dream ticket during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Put has previously coached several countries on the African continent such as Gambia, Burkina Faso, Kenya and Congo Brazzaville.

In 2013, Put took Burkina Faso to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, losing to Nigeria.

Put also coached Algerian club USM Alger and was the technical director at Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

In Morocco, Uganda is in a tricky Group C alongside West African giants Nigeria, Tunisia and neighbours Tanzania.

The 1978 Afcon runners up will kick off its Group C campaign against Tunisia on Tuesday, 23rd December 2025 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Olympic Annex Stadium, Rabat.
