On Thursday, FUFA ended speculation regarding Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put with a new employment contract.

Put who was out of contract this month extended his stay for another three years with the Uganda Cranes.

FUFA First Vice President Justus Mugisha said the renewal decision to renew the Belgian’s contract was based on performance.

“This is in line with the profound vision of building number one both on and off the field and also from the work done by our coach in the recent past where we nearly qualified for the World Cup and where our National Team performed very well in CHAN for the very first time we reached the quarter finals.”

Mugisha added that it was easier for the Ugandan FA to renew Put’s stay

“We are confident at FUFA that you will take us to the real top as far as African football is concerned and maybe you never know even the next World Cup.” Said Mugisha

Put who was heavily linked with a move to African giants Cameroon expressed his delight upon renewing his contract with the 1978 AFCON finalists.

“I can say that I am very happy and I am proud because when I signed for the first time the President asked me to build a strong team for 2027.You cannot imagine how many messages I received from my players who asked me to continue with Uganda and I always felt very good in Uganda. I felt respected by the Federation by players and also by fans.” He stated

The Belgian has been in charge of Uganda 23 times and his record reads; 13 Wins, 3 Draws, 7 losses, 30 goals scored, 24 goals conceded.

Put will now turn focus to Uganda Cranes international friendly matches against CHAD and AFCON 2025 hosts Morocco this month before the continental showpiece that gets underway next month.
