President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned a hotel being constructed by Uganda’s most decorated athlete Joshua Cheptegei in Kapchorwa District.
Museveni who is seeking re-election praised the multi-medalist for the development and promised support towards the project that is to cost Shs26 Billion.
“We are going to support him. We are not allowed to make pledges during elections but in principle we have supported other people such as manufacturers and even hotels, so we shall support him.”
The legendary long-distance athlete stated that the hotel under construction is from his sweat from athletics and is optimistic it will create over 400 jobs in the region.
“This project is from the savings I have been earning. I first bought land in 2017 and added on to it gradually. The first phase alone will take Shs13 billion,” Cheptegei said during the commissioning. “Already, over 100 people are working on the project, and once complete, it will create more than 400 jobs.” Said the Athlete
The global long-distance runner is a three time World champion over the 10000m and two time Olympic champion (10000 and 5000). He also has one silver over the 10000m world race and silver Olympic silver in the same race.
Cheptegei is the reigning world record holder over the 10000m (26 minutes and 11 seconds) and 5000m record holder which stands at 12 minutes 35 seconds and 36 micro seconds.
