Joyce Lalam wins Uganda first ever Javelin throw medal at African Games

Joyce Josephine Lalam has become the first ever athlete to win a Javelin medal for Uganda at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Josephine Joyce Lalam wins Uganda’s 3rd athletics medal at African Games in Ghana.

Lalam threw a distance of 57.01m on her third attempt to clinch javelin throw bronze.
Her 57.01m throw is also a new national record.

In 2019, the Ugandan finished fourth at in Rabat, also won bronze at 2018 Africa Senior Championships in Asaba, Nigeria.

She finished behind South Africans Jo-ane Van Dyk who bagged gold and silver medalist Van Schalkwyk Jana.

Van Dyk clinched gold in a championship record of 60.80 breaking the previous one set by compatriot Justine Robbeson in 2007.
