Shamirah Nabadda to referee at AFCON 2025

Shamirah Nabadda is the only Ugandan referee who will officiate at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco due to kick off next month.

Nabadda who recently won the CAF female referee of the year 2025 at the CAF awards is among the 73 referees who will officiate at the continental showpiece.

There are 28 center referees, 31 assistant referees and 14 Video Match officials.

She has previously handled matches at the 2022 Wafcon, the All Africa Games (2023), the World University Games in Napoli (2019), the Cecafa Women’s Senior Championship, World Cup Qualifiers, 2024 Olympic Games, and several Fufa tournaments.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she became the first Ugandan woman and only the second Ugandan overall since Ali Tomusange in 2000 to officiate at the Games.

Nabadda was in charge of the 2024 CHAN bronze medal match between Senegal and Sudan won the female referee of the Year award.

Somalia referee Omar Abdulkadr who recently won best Male referee gong at the 2025 awards will also be in Morocco for the event.

The 2025 AFCON will officially kickoff on 21st December when host nation Morocco takes on Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
