The Uganda Premier League wasted no time in serving up drama upon its return and Saturday matchday is no different.
The standout game this weekend will no doubt be under the lights of St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende where second placed SC Villa visit Vipers, who some are tipping to be serious title challengers this season.
Everyone will be watching Saturday’s late kick-off between the two in form sides Vipers SC and SC Villa at Kitende.
The Jogoos have been quietly going about their business this season, and after winning five straight league games, they are just a point behind league leaders KCCA FC who have played a game more following their 2-1 win at Mbarara City on Friday.
Both sides come into this game after wins over Express FC and UPDF FC for Vipers and SC Villa, respectively, and this fixture has gone up a level in anticipation.
The Venoms are a relentless machine, scoring goals for fun with plenty of attacking flair, but Villa have the talent to match. Head coach Zeljko Kovacevic has got the Jogoos purring at just the right time and they will have to be perfect against the Venoms.
It will be an intense atmosphere at Kitende as Vipers who are on 12 points in 6th place seek to close the gap on leaders KCCA. They are also four behind Villa who are second on the log but with three more games.
Villa on the other hand need to buck and win the game to return to the top.
Team News:
Vipers are likely to be without former SC Villa left back Derrick Ndahiro.
The visitors are to welcome back defender Mangoli Barasa while Left back Simon Ssemayange is a major doubt.
Head to Head
Vipers has managed 11 wins against the record league champions SC Villa, lost six and drawn nine in the previous 26 league matches between the two sides.
