Dew UG3x3 Series Returns bigger and better

David GOMBE

The 2025 edition of the Mountain Dew UG 3×3 Series has today been launched with more prize money to be awarded to the winning teams at each stop.

Following the success of the inaugural edition last season, Mountain Dew and Red Rhino Sports in association with FUBA have today announced the second edition of the nationwide UG3x3 basketball series that will have 4 stops across the country and a grand finale bringing together the best teams from each stop.

Prize money of UGX 2,000,000 (two million shillings) has been set aside for each stop with the winning men and women’s team each walking away with UGX 500,000/- as well as automatically qualifying for the Final.

The winning men and women’s team at the Final will each win UGX 2,000,000 (Two million shillings) while the runner-up teams will each win UGX 1,000,000 (One million shillings)
Cash prizes have also been set aside for the best individual players at each stop as well as at the final.

3×3 basketball is one of the fastest growing urban sports around the world and has since 2020 been an official Olympic sport. The game is not new to local athletes as Uganda has participated in and hosted several 3×3 tournaments including the Africa University 3×3 in July 2024 and the FIBA 3×3 Nations League in August 2024.
Speaking at the launch, Mountain Dew Brand Manager, Namutebi Grace said the brand is excited to again be a part of the UG3x3 series.

“Mountain Dew is an urban, hip brand that has been associated with basketball for a long time. We are excited to be a part of this 3×3 Series that will be taking place across the country bringing both our brand and the sport closer to the grassroots. It’s going to be great and exciting for both the players and fans and we are looking forward to it,” Ms. Namutebi said.

Red Rhino Sports Director, Akwech Samuel said they are pleased to bring yet another tournament to provide athletes a platform to showcase their skills, entertain fans and win great prizes.

“The UG3x3 series is yet another platform to develop and showcase their skills, entertain fans and win great prizes and we are excited to be back for another edition of this tournament. We thank Mountain Dew for being a part of this and we look forward to a thrilling tournament that showcases the best youth basketball skills in the country.”

FUBA General Secretary Hudson Ssegamwenge welcomed the tournament saying it has been a great addition to the local basketball calendar.

“FIBA and FUBA have long identified 3×3 as one of the ways to grow the game of basketball in Uganda. We are therefore excited to have Red Rhino Sports and Mountain Dew on board to help grow and advance this variation of the sport and we believe that it can help us grow the sport and we can even qualify for the next Olympics with even more activities such as these,” Hudson said.

The Mountain Dew UG3x3 Series will have 4 qualifying stops across Uganda in Kampala, Mukono, Gulu and Mbarara. The top teams at each stop will qualify for the Final that is scheduled for Saturday 13th December 2025 where the winning men and women’s teams will each walk away with UGX 2,000,000 (Two million) and the runner-up teams will each walk away with UGX 1,000,000 (one million).

The prize money at each stop will be UGX 500,000 for the winner and UGX 200,000 for the runner-up in both the men and women’s categories.
Participation in the Mountain Dew 3×3 series is open to all basketball players under 25 years.

Players simply have to come together and form a team of 4 people with the following criteria;
•All players should be under 25 years
•Maximum of two (2) National Basketball League players per team
•Minimum of two (2) Ugandan nationals per team
•Registration Fee 20K per team
