Busiro have appointed two time Masaza Cup winner Simon Ddungu alias Dunga as their head coach for the 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup tournament.

Ssingo and Kyaggwe were the other two teams that were interested in securing Ddungu’s signature for this year’s prestigious competition but he turned down both offers.

Ddungu is a two time Masaza Cup winner having won it with record winners Gomba in 2017 and most recently with Buddu in 2024.

Last year, he made a return to Gomba but had an abysmal reign as he was sacked due to poor results and was replaced by Nasibu Mukasa.

In the same campaign he joined three time competition champions Bulemeezi but was not able to turn the page around as the team failed to progress past the group stage.

Meanwhile, Busiro which is Ddungu’s new home has failed to advance to the knockout phase since their maiden triumph in 2022.

This will be the second time that Ddungu will be serving at Busiro and has previously worked at Mawokota, Mawogola, Gomba, Ssingo and Bulemeezi all in the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup

Busiro is also expected to appoint Bugembe Asadu who was at Buddu last year as their goalkeeping coach while Mujjuzi Moore is to work as the Technical Director.

This year’s Buganda Kingdom organized event is scheduled to kickoff in June with reigning champions Buweekula hosting the opening game.
