The FUFA Big League turned drama with a side of pure chaos in Ntungamo on 3rd may 2026 as Karo karungi clashed with Kataka FC at Kyamate playgrounds.
At Kyamate Playground, Kaaro Karungi FC looked set to script a rare win, thanks to Gideon Onyango’s first-half strike that had the home fans dreaming. But football has a habit of flipping the script when least expected.
In 86th minute,Kataka FC clawed back through Isaac Owiny, a goal that didn’t just level the score but detonated a storm. Kaaro Karungi players immediately cried foul, insisting their goalkeeper had been unfairly challenged in the build-up. What followed was not a restart, but a rebellion.
Players and technical staff from Kaaro Karungi staged a sit-down protest right on the pitch, freezing the match for over 30 minutes. For that stretch, the field resembled a negotiation table more than a football ground.
Earlier tensions had already been simmering, with concerns raised about inadequate security, a detail that now feels less like a footnote and more like a warning sign that went unheeded.
When play eventually resumed, calm still refused to return. Ronald Ahereza thought he had restored Kaaro Karungi’s lead, but that goal too walked into controversy, sparking protests from the Kataka camp. In response, Kataka’s technical bench reportedly instructed players to abandon the match, starting with substitutes trickling off like a quiet protest march.
Now the ball sits not at the centre circle, but on the desk of Federation of Uganda Football Associations. No official result has been recorded, and both teams, along with match officials, are expected to file reports before a verdict is delivered.
Hanging over the case is Rule 23(13), a clause with teeth. Any team that refuses to continue play risks forfeiting the match and facing disciplinary consequences. In other words, the final score might be decided not by goals, but by governance.
Far from trivial on the table standings,
Kaaro Karungi are at stake battling relegation quicksand, while Kataka FC are within touching distance of promotion. That makes this abandoned clash less of a single match and more of a turning point wrapped in controversy.
