From Uganda Premier League to relegation to the Regional League, Wakiso Giants Musa Atagenda examines Purple Sharks fall from grace.

On May, 10th 2025, Wakiso Giants were officially relegated from the topflight division to the FUFA Big League but 6th June 2026 will go down as arguably the worst day in the club’s history following their relegation to the Regional league.

Following the Wakiso Giants 4-0 defeat Young Elephants, Atagenda a man who has invested millions and millions of money confirmed that he will leave Ugandan football and focus on other things.

“I gave everything. Time, money, energy& belief. Sadly, football has a way of punishing those who genuinely invest in it. Some decisions are painful, but necessary. The biggest mistake is expecting fairness in a system that feeds on your passion and gives nothing back.” Said Musa Atagenda via his social media platforms

He added that following his exit from investing in Ugandan football his dear sister will throw a party in celebration

“My sister says she’s throwing a party to celebrate my exit from football! You can imagine what my family was going through, as my time was devoted to the game! Who’s joining in.”

Wakiso Giants through their social media platforms also noted that,

“Some journeys are measured by the distance covered, others by the lessons carried. Since 2018, the road has been long, the storms many,& the silence often louder than the cheers. Every chapter eventually finds its final page till we meet again.”

Wakiso Giants finished the 2025/26 FUFA Big League campaign second from the bottom with 31 points and were relegated along with two other former UPL sides Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes. Nebbi Central were the other side to drop to the regional league.

Meanwhile, Blacks Power, Ntugasaze FC, Kataka FC and Kigezi Homeboyz were the four sides to gain promotion to the Uganda Premier League next season.
